Quick answer
Could your flight qualify?
You may have compensation rights if your flight falls within Oman's passenger-rights rules and you experienced a qualifying cancellation, a delay of more than six hours, or involuntary denied boarding. Care and refund rights can also apply even where fixed compensation is not payable.

Passenger rights
Which flights can be covered?
Oman's rules look at where the flight departs, whether the carrier is Omani, and whether another country's rules have already compensated the passenger.
Flights departing from airports in Oman can be covered whether the operating airline is Omani or foreign.
Domestic flights between airports in Oman are covered.
Flights arriving in Oman on a national carrier can be covered where the passenger has not already been compensated under the rules of the departure country.
Flights arriving in Oman on a foreign carrier are generally subject to the departure country's rules or applicable international agreements.
Flight disruptions
What types of disruption may qualify?
Delayed flight
Care and support begin during qualifying waits, while a delay of more than six hours can bring the cancellation compensation provisions into play.
Cancelled flight
International and domestic cancellations have different rules, with compensation depending on factors such as distance, notice and the alternative travel offered.
Denied boarding
If you are involuntarily denied boarding, compensation can depend on how quickly a suitable alternative flight is provided and whether you continue the journey.
Missed connection
A disruption on a connected itinerary can be relevant where it causes a long delay or cancellation affecting the final journey. The booking and responsible carrier still matter.
Compensation
How much compensation could you receive?
Oman uses a mix of fixed OMR amounts and ticket-value percentages. International cancellation compensation is distance-based, while denied boarding and domestic cancellation use separate rules.
International cancellation and long-delay compensation
For qualifying international cancellations, Oman uses fixed compensation based on flight distance. A delay of more than six hours can be treated under the cancellation compensation provisions.
- Flight distance
- Up to 1,500 km
- Compensation
- OMR 108
- Flight distance
- More than 1,500 km and up to 3,500 km
- Compensation
- OMR 173
- Flight distance
- More than 3,500 km
- Compensation
- OMR 260
| Flight distance | Compensation |
|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | OMR 108 |
| More than 1,500 km and up to 3,500 km | OMR 173 |
| More than 3,500 km | OMR 260 |
The distance is measured from the departure airport to the final destination airport. The exact entitlement still depends on the cancellation or delay conditions in Oman's Passenger Rights Protection Regulation.
Denied boarding
If you are involuntarily denied boarding, the outcome depends on the alternative flight offered and whether you continue the journey.

Domestic cancellation
Domestic flights have separate rules based on how close to departure the cancellation occurs and whether a suitable alternative is provided.

- Refund of the unused ticket value plus 100% of that value

| Situation | Passenger right |
|---|---|
| Within 24 hours, with no alternative within 4 hours | Refund of the unused ticket value plus 100% of that value |
| 24 hours to 7 days before departure | Alternative travel and 50% of the total ticket value |
| More than 7 days before departure | Alternative flight within 24 hours; 50% of the total ticket value if the alternative exceeds 24 hours |
Compensation depends on the exact circumstances of the disruption and the choices made after the airline offers alternative travel. Care, refund and rerouting rights can exist separately from fixed compensation.
Eligibility
What determines whether compensation applies?
The route, operating carrier, length of the disruption, notice given and alternative travel offered can all affect the result under Oman's Passenger Rights Protection Regulation.
Departure from Oman creates broad coverage
The regulation applies to flights departing Oman regardless of whether the operating airline is Omani or foreign.
Arrivals are treated differently
Qualifying arrivals on an Omani national carrier can be covered, while arrivals on foreign airlines are generally governed by the departure country's rules or relevant international agreements.
Care starts before compensation
CAA guidance provides refreshments from two hours, a meal after three hours and accommodation plus airport transport after six hours where the conditions are met.
More than six hours can change a delay claim
Once a delay exceeds six hours, the passenger can request compensation using the cancellation provisions rather than relying only on care and support.
Codeshares can involve both carriers
For a codeshare journey, the regulation allows the passenger to approach the operating or marketing carrier, although the actual operating airline remains important to the wider rights assessment.
The airline should respond to a complaint
The CAA says the airline should provide a written response to a passenger complaint within 15 working days before unresolved matters are escalated.
Important conditions
When compensation may not apply
Not every disruption results in fixed compensation. The scope of the regulation, force majeure, the alternative journey offered and the passenger's own travel circumstances can change the outcome.
A qualifying force-majeure event can remove the airline's fixed-compensation obligation.
An arrival into Oman operated by a foreign carrier does not fall under the Oman regulation solely because Oman is the destination.
A comparable alternative flight within less than two hours after denied boarding does not trigger fixed denied-boarding compensation, although care and support still apply.
Passengers travelling free of charge or on certain non-public reduced fares are outside the regulation's scope.
Connecting journeys
Connected journeys depend on the booking and carriers involved
A missed connection is not a separate compensation category under the Oman regulation. The underlying delay, cancellation or denied boarding must be assessed together with the confirmed itinerary, the carrier responsible and the effect on the remaining journey. Codeshare passengers can have rights against the operating or marketing carrier under the regulation.
