Quick answer

Could your flight qualify?

You may have compensation rights if your scheduled flight falls within Thailand's CAAT Regulation No. 101 and you experienced a sufficiently long delay, cancellation or involuntary denied boarding. The amount depends on whether the flight is domestic or international, the length of the delay, flight distance and the reason for the disruption.

Passenger rights

Which flights can be covered?

For scheduled flights, coverage depends mainly on the operating airline and whether the flight is domestic or departs from Thailand.

Domestic scheduled flights operated by Thai airlines can be covered.

International scheduled flights departing Thailand on Thai airlines can be covered.

International scheduled flights departing Thailand on foreign airlines can be covered.

A foreign-airline flight arriving in Thailand is not covered by Regulation No. 101 solely because Thailand is the destination.

Flight disruptions

What types of disruption may qualify?

Delayed flight

Rights increase with the waiting time. Compensation can begin after more than five hours, with higher distance-based amounts for international delays exceeding ten hours.

Cancelled flight

A qualifying cancellation can give you fixed compensation together with refund, rerouting, care and accommodation rights depending on the circumstances.

Denied boarding

If you are involuntarily denied boarding after the airline seeks volunteers, compensation and alternative-travel or refund rights can apply.

Missed connection

A missed connection can matter where an underlying covered delay or cancellation affects a connected scheduled journey. The booking and final impact still need to be assessed.

Compensation

How much compensation could you receive?

Thailand uses fixed baht amounts for qualifying disruptions. Domestic and international flights are treated differently, and long international delays use distance-based tiers.

Flight delay compensation

Thailand's rules distinguish between domestic and international scheduled flights and increase passenger rights as the delay becomes longer.

Cancellation and denied boarding compensation

Where the compensation conditions are met, domestic flights use one fixed amount while international flights use distance-based amounts.

Care, refund and rerouting rights can apply separately from fixed compensation. For example, a passenger may receive meals or accommodation during a qualifying wait even when the final compensation assessment is still unresolved.

Eligibility

What determines whether compensation applies?

CAAT Regulation No. 101 looks at the flight type, waiting time, distance, cause of the disruption and the options offered by the airline.

Departure from Thailand is important

Foreign airlines are covered on qualifying international scheduled departures from Thailand, while Thai airlines are also covered on domestic scheduled flights.

Passenger rights increase with longer delays

Care begins before fixed compensation. Refund, rerouting, accommodation and compensation options expand as the delay crosses the thresholds in the regulation.

Domestic and international compensation differs

Domestic flights use fixed THB 1,200 delay and THB 1,500 cancellation or denied-boarding amounts, while international compensation can rise with flight distance.

Cancellation notice can remove fixed compensation

International cancellation compensation may not apply where sufficient advance notice is given or a suitable replacement keeps the passenger within the timing window defined by the regulation.

Extraordinary circumstances matter

Qualifying external circumstances can exempt the airline from fixed compensation where the regulatory conditions are met, although other passenger rights may still remain.

Long tarmac delays have separate protections

The regulation includes basic care on the aircraft and a general right to disembark after more than three hours without a definite departure time, subject to safety, security and air-traffic-control restrictions.

Important conditions

When compensation may not apply

Not every disruption qualifies for fixed compensation. Coverage, notice, the reason for the disruption and whether the passenger accepted another solution can all change the result.

A foreign-airline arrival into Thailand is not covered by Regulation No. 101 solely because Thailand is the destination.

Qualifying extraordinary circumstances can remove the fixed-compensation obligation.

International cancellation compensation may not apply where the airline gave the required advance notice or provided a replacement journey within the regulatory timing window.

A passenger who volunteers to give up a seat after agreeing benefits with the airline is treated differently from someone involuntarily denied boarding.

Connecting journeys

A missed connection depends on the underlying covered disruption

Thailand's Regulation No. 101 protects passengers against specified delays, cancellations and denied boarding rather than creating a separate fixed payment simply because a connection was missed. For a connected journey, the booking, operating carrier, covered flight and effect of the original disruption all need to be assessed together.

Before you claim

What should you keep?

Keep clear records showing the original flight, the disruption, the assistance offered and what happened next.

Your booking confirmation, ticket and complete itinerary.

Boarding passes or proof that you presented yourself for travel on time.

Airline emails, messages or app notifications about the disruption.
