Canada, Saudi Arabia, UK, EU, Türkiye, Oman, Thailand, Mexico and India
Compensation
Fixed or tiered amounts depending on the applicable rules
Eligibility depends on the actual journey and passenger-rights rules that apply.
Quick answer
Could your flight qualify?
You may be entitled to delayed flight compensation if passenger-rights rules apply to your journey and the relevant delay, route, airline and cause conditions are met. In many cases, the key question is how late you reached the final destination rather than simply how late the flight departed.

Passenger rights
Your rights depend on the journey
Delayed-flight rights are not identical around the world. Different rules use flight distance, airline size or specific delay bands, and the reason for the delay can determine whether fixed compensation is payable.
Canada
APPR
CAD 125–1,000
Eligible delays can qualify based on the final arrival delay and whether the operating airline is classified as large or small. The disruption must also meet the APPR compensation conditions.
Saudi Arabia
GACA
About SAR 255–765
GACA provides 50 SDR for an eligible delay in the 3–6 hour band and 150 SDR when the total arrival delay exceeds 6 hours. The SAR value is approximate because SDR changes over time.
United Kingdom
UK261
£220–£520
Eligible arrival delays can qualify for fixed compensation based mainly on flight distance and, for long-haul journeys, the exact length of the final arrival delay.
European Union
EC261
€250–€600
Eligible delays of at least three hours at the final destination can qualify for compensation based primarily on journey distance, subject to the EC261 conditions.
Türkiye
SHY-YOLCU
TRY equivalent of €100–€600
For qualifying technical or operational delays that result in arrival at the planned final destination at least three hours late, compensation can apply under SHY-YOLCU.
Oman
Oman CAA
OMR 108–260 for qualifying international cases
Care applies during shorter qualifying waits. When a delay exceeds six hours, the passenger can request compensation using Oman's cancellation provisions.
Thailand
CAAT 101
THB 1,200–4,500
Qualifying domestic and international delays can receive fixed compensation after more than five hours, with higher distance-based amounts for international delays exceeding ten hours.
Mexico
Mexico LAC
Minimum 7.5% in the 2–4 hour band
For delays attributable to the airline, Mexico uses registered airline policies after one hour, a minimum 7.5% threshold after two hours, and cancellation remedies when the delay exceeds four hours.
India
India DGCA
Care and assistance; no standalone statutory cash delay payment
India DGCA provides meals, alternative travel or refund and, in qualifying cases, accommodation. A delay alone does not create a standalone cash claim under Travaro's India rules.
Compensation
How compensation can differ
The headline amount is only one part of the assessment. The correct passenger-rights rules must apply to the journey, and the reason for the delay can be just as important as the number of hours.

These are headline compensation rules for the countries and regions Travaro currently supports. The actual result depends on route, operating airline, cause of delay and the passenger-rights rules that apply.

Eligibility
What determines whether compensation applies?
Delay compensation is not determined by one universal formula. These are the main factors Travaro checks when assessing a delayed journey.
Final arrival time can be more important than departure time
A flight can leave several hours late but make up time in the air, or a smaller delay can cause a missed connection and create a much larger final arrival delay. Many passenger-rights frameworks therefore focus on when you reach the final destination.
The route determines which rules may apply
Departure airport, arrival airport and operating airline can determine whether APPR, GACA, UK261, EC261 or SHY-YOLCU applies to the journey.
The cause of the delay matters
Weather, air traffic control restrictions, security events, operational issues and technical problems can be treated differently. A long delay does not automatically mean fixed compensation is payable.
Distance can change the compensation amount
UK261, EC261 and SHY-YOLCU use journey distance when setting compensation amounts. Longer journeys can fall into higher compensation bands.
Airline size matters in Canada
Under the Canadian APPR, large and small airlines use different compensation tiers for eligible delay and cancellation claims.
Connecting journeys can change the result
Where flights are protected as one connected itinerary, the relevant delay can be the delay at the final destination rather than the delay on only one flight segment.
During the disruption
Compensation is not your only possible right
A delayed journey can create practical rights while you wait, even where fixed compensation is not ultimately payable. The exact support depends on the passenger-rights rules that apply and length of delay.
Meals or refreshments may be required after qualifying waiting periods.
Hotel accommodation and airport transport can apply where an overnight stay becomes necessary.
Airlines can have alternative travel or rebooking obligations when the original journey cannot continue as planned.
Long delays can create refund or journey-termination options under several passenger-rights frameworks.
Keep itemised receipts where you reasonably pay for meals, accommodation or local transport yourself.
Before you claim
What should you keep?
Keeping a clear record of the delay makes it easier to establish the final arrival time, the cause of the disruption and any expenses you incurred.
Your original booking confirmation and full itinerary.
Boarding passes, e-tickets or other proof of travel.
Airline emails, text messages or app notifications showing the delay.
Any explanation the airline gave for the reason behind the delay.
The actual arrival time at your final destination, including replacement flights or connections.
Itemised receipts for reasonable meals, accommodation or local transport expenses where relevant.
