Quick answer

Could your flight qualify?

You may be eligible for compensation or other passenger rights after a qualifying airBaltic disruption. airBaltic is an EU carrier. EC261 is central to qualifying European journeys, with UK261 and Türkiye’s SHY-YOLCU potentially relevant on the airline’s own UK and Türkiye services. Travaro checks your actual journey before assessing eligibility.

Important conditions

What can affect your eligibility?

The airline name alone does not establish entitlement. For airBaltic, the route, date, cause, operating carrier, disruption type and protected booking all matter.

EC261 depends on your itinerary

EC261-based rights can apply to qualifying departures from covered EU/EEA airports. For EU/EEA operating carriers, qualifying arrivals from outside the region may also be covered. The direction, carrier and disruption circumstances matter.

UK261 depends on your itinerary

UK261 can apply to qualifying UK departures. Some inbound flights operated by covered UK or European carriers may also qualify, but no blanket entitlement applies merely because the itinerary mentions the UK.

SHY-YOLCU depends on your itinerary

Qualifying flights this airline actually operates departing Türkiye may fall within SHY-YOLCU. Seasonal services and flight-date evidence matter; partner-operated codeshares are assessed under the actual operator.

The actual operating carrier matters

A flight marketed by airBaltic may be performed by a partner or wet-lease operator. Check the booking and the actual airline responsible for the flight; partner travel is not automatically an airBaltic-operated service.

Cancellation notice and alternative flights affect rights

A qualifying cancellation may provide compensation and/or other remedies, depending on cause, advance notice and the alternative journey.

Protected connections are assessed as a journey

For a protected airBaltic connection through Riga, the itinerary and final arrival impact can matter more than the delay on one flight.

External causes can affect fixed compensation

Weather, air-traffic restrictions and other genuinely external events can change cash-compensation eligibility while some care or rerouting rights may remain.

What to keep

Keep a clear record of the journey

Keep enough information to identify the airBaltic-operated flight, your complete journey and the impact of the disruption.

Original booking confirmation with the airBaltic flight numbers, dates and full itinerary.

Boarding passes or other proof of timely check-in.

Name of the airline that actually operated each affected flight.

Emails, texts or airline app notifications about delays or cancellations.

Original and replacement flight timings, including actual arrival at the final destination.

The airline’s explanation of the disruption, if provided.

Rebooking, alternative transport or refund details.

Receipts for reasonable meals, accommodation or transfers where relevant.
