Emirates compensation guide
The airline name alone does not determine your rights. Route, operating carrier and disruption details matter.
Quick answer
Could your flight qualify?
You may be entitled to compensation or other passenger rights after an eligible Emirates delay, cancellation, involuntary denied boarding or disrupted connection. Emirates is a UAE airline, so route and direction of travel are especially important when determining whether EC261, UK261, APPR, GACA, SHY-YOLCU or Oman CAA applies.

Passenger rights
Which passenger rights could apply?
Emirates is a non-EU and non-UK airline with a large international network. Unlike an EU or UK carrier, the airline's home country alone does not determine your rights. The departure airport, destination, operating carrier, booking structure and direction of travel must be checked.
European Union
EC261
€250–€600 in qualifying cases
Qualifying Emirates-operated flights departing from airports covered by EC261 can fall under EU passenger-rights rules. Because Emirates is not an EU carrier, an Emirates flight starting outside the EU is not covered merely because it arrives in the EU.

UK261
£220–£520 in qualifying cases
Emirates-operated departures from the United Kingdom can fall under UK261. Because Emirates is not a UK or EU carrier, an Emirates flight arriving in the UK from outside the relevant European framework is not covered merely because it lands in the UK.

APPR
Compensation can apply in qualifying cases
Canada's Air Passenger Protection Regulations apply broadly to flights to, from and within Canada, including qualifying connecting flights. Emirates journeys involving Canada can therefore fall within APPR.

GACA
Passenger rights can apply on qualifying Saudi departures
Saudi Arabia's passenger-rights regulations cover flights departing from Saudi airports whether the airline is Saudi or foreign. Qualifying Emirates departures from Saudi Arabia can therefore fall within GACA passenger protections.

SHY-YOLCU
TRY equivalent of €100–€600
Emirates is a foreign airline for the purposes of Türkiye's passenger-rights framework. Qualifying Emirates-operated departures from airports in Türkiye can fall under SHY-YOLCU.

Oman CAA
OMR 108–260 in qualifying cases
Oman's Passenger Rights Protection Regulation can apply to qualifying flights departing from Oman. For foreign airlines, an arrival into Oman is generally governed by the departure country's rules rather than Oman CAA solely because Oman is the destination.

CAAT 101
THB 1,500–4,500 in qualifying cases
Thailand's CAAT Regulation No. 101 can apply to qualifying scheduled Emirates departures from Thailand. The disruption type, delay length, flight distance and other regulatory conditions determine the available rights.

Mexico LAC
Ticket-price percentages and statutory remedies in qualifying cases
Emirates operates passenger services involving Mexico. On qualifying services governed by Mexico's Civil Aviation Law, airline-attributable delays, cancellations and overbooking can trigger statutory assistance, refund or alternative-travel remedies and percentage-based compensation.

India DGCA
Fare-based compensation subject to INR limits
India’s DGCA passenger-rights rules can apply to qualifying flights within, to or from India, including flights operated by foreign airlines. Delay may create assistance rights without a standalone fixed cash award; some cancellations, involuntary denied boarding and qualifying missed connections have separate conditions and statutory fare-based limits. The actual operating carrier, dates and disruption facts must be checked.

What happened to your Emirates flight?
Delayed flight
A significant arrival delay may qualify depending on the route, applicable passenger-rights rules and cause of the disruption.
Cancelled flight
Cancellation rights can depend on notice timing, the reason for cancellation and any alternative journey offered.
Denied boarding
Involuntary denied boarding can create compensation, alternative travel, refund and care rights in qualifying circumstances.
Missed connection
A connecting journey booked as one itinerary may qualify when a disruption causes you to reach your final destination significantly late.
Important conditions
What can affect your eligibility?
Emirates is a useful example of why passenger rights cannot be determined from the airline name alone. The same airline can be subject to very different rules depending on where the journey starts and how the itinerary is constructed.
Direction of travel matters
A journey departing from a protected jurisdiction can have different rights from the reverse journey on the same airline.
EU departures can fall under EC261
Because Emirates is a non-EU airline, qualifying Emirates departures from the EU can be covered while a flight originating outside the EU does not gain EC261 protection simply by landing there.
UK departures can fall under UK261
Qualifying Emirates flights leaving the United Kingdom can fall within UK261. Inbound Emirates flights require a different assessment because Emirates is not a UK or EU carrier.
Canada has broad route coverage
APPR applies to flights to, from and within Canada and can extend to qualifying connecting flights, making the complete itinerary important.
Saudi and Türkiye departures can be protected
Foreign airlines can fall within GACA protections when departing Saudi Arabia and within SHY-YOLCU when departing Türkiye, subject to the applicable regulatory conditions.
Check the actual operating carrier
An Emirates booking can contain a flight operated by a partner airline. Passenger rights can depend on the carrier that actually operated the disrupted flight, so codeshare journeys must be checked carefully.
Thailand departures can fall under CAAT 101
Qualifying scheduled Emirates departures from Thailand can be assessed under Thailand's CAAT Regulation No. 101. Delay length, disruption type, distance and other regulatory conditions still need to be checked.
Mexico's Civil Aviation Law can apply on qualifying Mexico services
Emirates services involving Mexico can also need to be assessed under Mexico's Civil Aviation Law, including the airline's registered compensation policy for attributable delays and the statutory remedies that apply after serious delays, cancellations or overbooking.
India journeys are assessed under DGCA rules
Qualifying departures and arrivals involving India, and domestic flights within India, require a DGCA assessment. Delay assistance is different from capped cancellation or denied-boarding compensation; the operating airline, advance notice and alternative travel matter.
