The airline name alone does not determine your rights. Route, operating carrier and disruption details matter.

Quick answer

Could your flight qualify?

You may be entitled to compensation for an eligible Eurowings delay, cancellation, involuntary denied boarding or disrupted connection. EC261 can cover many Eurowings journeys, while UK261 or SHY-YOLCU may also be relevant depending on your route. If another airline actually operated your flight, that operating carrier must also be checked.

Important conditions

What can affect your eligibility?

The Eurowings flight number alone is not enough to determine your rights. Route, direction of travel, operating carrier, disruption circumstances and final journey impact all need to be considered.

Eurowings' EU status can extend EC261 coverage

EC261 can protect qualifying Eurowings departures from the EU and, because Eurowings is an EU carrier, qualifying Eurowings-operated arrivals into the EU from outside the EU.

Partner-operated flights need an operating-carrier check

Eurowings works with partner airlines on parts of its network. A booking carrying an EW flight number may therefore have another airline operating the aircraft, which can affect the passenger-rights assessment.

Final arrival delay can determine compensation

For qualifying delay and connecting-flight cases, how late you reached the final destination can matter more than the departure delay of the first flight.

Cancellation notice and replacement travel matter

Cancellation compensation can depend on when you were informed, the reason for the cancellation and the timing of any alternative journey offered.

Extraordinary circumstances can remove fixed compensation

Events genuinely outside the airline's control can remove entitlement to fixed compensation. Other passenger rights such as care, rerouting or refund can still remain.

What to keep

Keep a clear record of the journey

Useful evidence should establish the booked itinerary, the airline that actually operated the disrupted flight, what happened and the effect on your final journey.

Booking confirmation showing your route, travel date and Eurowings flight number.

Boarding pass or other proof that you checked in and were ready to travel.

The name of the airline that actually operated the disrupted flight.

Emails, text messages or app notifications about the disruption.

Replacement-flight or rerouting information if your itinerary changed.

Evidence of your actual final arrival time where available.

Any explanation given for the delay or cancellation.

Receipts for reasonable meals, accommodation or transport expenses caused by the disruption.
