Finnair compensation guide
The airline name alone does not determine your rights. Route, operating carrier and disruption details matter.
Quick answer
Could your flight qualify?
You may be entitled to compensation for an eligible Finnair delay, cancellation, involuntary denied boarding or disrupted connection. EC261 can cover many Finnair journeys, while UK261, Canada's APPR or Türkiye's SHY-YOLCU rules may also become relevant depending on your route and operating carrier.

Passenger rights
Which passenger rights could apply?
Finnair is a Finnish EU airline with a broad European and long-haul network. EC261 is therefore especially important, but journeys involving the United Kingdom, Canada or Türkiye can bring additional passenger-rights frameworks into scope.
European Union
EC261
€250–€600 in qualifying cases
Qualifying Finnair flights departing from protected European airports can fall under EC261. Because Finnair is an EU carrier, qualifying Finnair-operated arrivals into the EU from outside the EU can also be covered.

UK261
£220–£520 in qualifying cases
Qualifying Finnair flights departing from the United Kingdom can fall under UK261. Finnair-operated arrivals into the UK can also be relevant because Finnair is an EU carrier.

APPR
Compensation can apply in qualifying cases
A qualifying Finnair journey involving Canada can fall under Canada's Air Passenger Protection Regulations. The disruption circumstances, final arrival delay, itinerary and operating carrier determine the applicable rights.

SHY-YOLCU
TRY equivalent of €100–€600
Qualifying Finnair departures from airports in Türkiye can fall under SHY-YOLCU. Route, disruption type, final arrival impact and the applicable regulatory conditions determine the passenger rights.

CAAT 101
THB 1,500–4,500 in qualifying cases
Thailand's CAAT Regulation No. 101 can apply to qualifying scheduled Finnair departures from Thailand. The disruption type, delay length, flight distance and other regulatory conditions determine the available rights.

India DGCA
Fare-based compensation subject to INR limits
India’s DGCA passenger-rights rules can apply to qualifying flights within, to or from India, including flights operated by foreign airlines. Delay may create assistance rights without a standalone fixed cash award; some cancellations, involuntary denied boarding and qualifying missed connections have separate conditions and statutory fare-based limits. The actual operating carrier, dates and disruption facts must be checked.

What happened to your Finnair flight?
Delayed flight
A significant arrival delay may qualify depending on the route, applicable passenger-rights rules and cause of the disruption.
Cancelled flight
Cancellation rights can depend on notice timing, the reason for cancellation and any alternative journey offered.
Denied boarding
Involuntary denied boarding can create compensation, alternative travel, refund and care rights in qualifying circumstances.
Missed connection
A connecting journey booked as one itinerary may qualify when a disruption causes you to reach your final destination significantly late.
Important conditions
What can affect your eligibility?
The Finnair name alone does not determine which passenger-rights rules apply. The route, direction of travel, operating carrier, booking structure, disruption and final arrival impact all need to be assessed together.
Your route determines the legal starting point
A Finnair journey involving the European Union, United Kingdom, Canada or Türkiye can fall within different passenger-rights frameworks depending on where the affected flight begins and ends.
The operating carrier matters
A flight carrying a Finnair flight number may sometimes be operated by another airline. Passenger-rights coverage can depend on the carrier that actually operated the disrupted flight.
Final arrival delay can determine compensation
For many qualifying delay and missed-connection cases, the important measure is how late you ultimately reached the final destination on the protected journey rather than only the departure delay.
The cause of the disruption matters
Technical, operational, weather, air-traffic-control and other causes can be treated differently. Fixed compensation is not automatically payable for every delay or cancellation.
Cancellation notice can change your rights
For qualifying cancellation cases, when Finnair informed you and the timing of any replacement flight can affect whether fixed compensation is available.
Connecting itineraries should be assessed as a whole
If an earlier disruption causes you to miss a protected connection, the complete booking, operating carriers and final arrival time can all be important.
Thailand departures can fall under CAAT 101
Qualifying scheduled Finnair departures from Thailand can be assessed under Thailand's CAAT Regulation No. 101. Delay length, disruption type, distance and other regulatory conditions still need to be checked.
India journeys are assessed under DGCA rules
Qualifying departures and arrivals involving India, and domestic flights within India, require a DGCA assessment. Delay assistance is different from capped cancellation or denied-boarding compensation; the operating airline, advance notice and alternative travel matter.
What to keep
