Iberia compensation guide
The airline name alone does not determine your rights. Route, operating carrier and disruption details matter.
Quick answer
Could your flight qualify?
You may be entitled to compensation for an eligible Iberia delay, cancellation, involuntary denied boarding or disrupted connection. EC261 can cover qualifying Iberia journeys both from and into the European Union, while UK261 or Canada's APPR may also be relevant depending on your route.

Passenger rights
Which passenger rights could apply?
Iberia is a Spanish EU airline with a major European and long-haul network. EC261 is therefore particularly important. Flights involving the United Kingdom or Canada can also bring UK261 or Canada's APPR into scope.
European Union
EC261
€250–€600 in qualifying cases
Qualifying Iberia flights departing from airports covered by EC261 can fall under EU passenger-rights rules. Because Iberia is an EU carrier, Iberia-operated flights arriving into the EU from outside the EU can also fall within EC261.

UK261
£220–£520 in qualifying cases
Iberia-operated departures from the United Kingdom can fall under UK261. Because Iberia is an EU carrier, qualifying Iberia-operated arrivals into the UK from outside the UK can also be covered.

APPR
APPR rights on qualifying Canada routes
Canada's Air Passenger Protection Regulations apply to qualifying flights to, from and within Canada, including connecting flights. Iberia's Madrid–Toronto service creates direct APPR relevance for qualifying Iberia journeys involving Canada.

Ticket-price percentages and statutory remedies in qualifying cases
Iberia operates passenger services involving Mexico. On qualifying services governed by Mexico's Civil Aviation Law, airline-attributable delays, cancellations and overbooking can trigger statutory assistance, refund or alternative-travel remedies and percentage-based compensation.

What happened to your Iberia flight?
Delayed flight
A significant arrival delay may qualify depending on the route, applicable passenger-rights rules and cause of the disruption.
Cancelled flight
Cancellation rights can depend on notice timing, the reason for cancellation and any alternative journey offered.
Denied boarding
Involuntary denied boarding can create compensation, alternative travel, refund and care rights in qualifying circumstances.
Missed connection
A connecting journey booked as one itinerary may qualify when a disruption causes you to reach your final destination significantly late.
Important conditions
What can affect your eligibility?
An IB flight number alone does not determine your rights. Iberia journeys can be operated by Iberia, Iberia Express, Iberia Regional Air Nostrum or another codeshare partner, so Travaro checks the actual operating airline, route and disruption before applying the relevant passenger-rights rules.
EC261 has broad relevance to Iberia
Because Iberia is an EU carrier, qualifying departures from airports covered by EC261 can be protected, and Iberia-operated flights arriving into the EU from outside the EU can also fall within the regulation.
Iberia Express may operate your flight
Some journeys sold within the Iberia network are operated by Iberia Express. The operating carrier shown on the itinerary should be checked when assessing passenger-rights coverage.
Air Nostrum operates Iberia Regional flights
Some short- and medium-haul Iberia services are operated by Air Nostrum under the Iberia Regional brand. The operating carrier and route should be established before deciding which passenger-rights framework applies.
Codeshare partners matter
Iberia sells seats on some flights operated by partner airlines under an IB flight number. Passenger-rights coverage can depend on the airline that physically operated the disrupted flight.
Final arrival delay can be decisive
For qualifying delay and connecting-flight claims, entitlement can depend on how late you reached the final destination on the protected itinerary rather than only the delay of one flight segment.
Cancellation notice timing matters
For EC261 and UK261 cancellation claims, when Iberia informed you and the replacement travel offered can affect whether fixed compensation is payable.
Mexico's Civil Aviation Law can apply on qualifying Mexico services
Iberia services involving Mexico can also need to be assessed under Mexico's Civil Aviation Law, including the airline's registered compensation policy for attributable delays and the statutory remedies that apply after serious delays, cancellations or overbooking.
What to keep
