LATAM Airlines compensation guide
The airline name alone does not determine your rights. Route, operating carrier and disruption details matter.
Quick answer
Could your flight qualify?
A qualifying LATAM Airlines (LA) flight disruption can create compensation, rerouting, refund or care rights under EC261 and Mexico LAC. Eligibility depends on which airline actually operated the flight, its departure and destination, the cause and timing of the disruption and the specific regulation.

Passenger rights
Which passenger rights could apply?
LATAM Airlines (LA) operates Santiago–Madrid and Santiago–Mexico City services. The relevant EU departure and Mexico rules depend on the actual LA-operated flight, journey direction and disruption. LATAM is a group brand covering distinct airline companies: a LATAM-marketed route may instead be operated by another group entity or a partner.

EC261
€250–€600 in qualifying cases
LATAM Airlines-operated LA services from Madrid can be protected by EC261, even when operated by a non-EU airline. LATAM-branded flights operated by different LATAM group entities require separate operator checks.

Ticket-price percentages and statutory remedies in qualifying cases
LATAM Airlines operates Santiago–Mexico City services. Qualifying services involving Mexico may be assessed under Mexico's Civil Aviation Law; route, delay cause and actual flight operator matter.

What happened to your LATAM Airlines flight?
Delayed flight
A significant arrival delay may qualify depending on the route, applicable passenger-rights rules and cause of the disruption.
Cancelled flight
Cancellation rights can depend on notice timing, the reason for cancellation and any alternative journey offered.
Denied boarding
Involuntary denied boarding can create compensation, alternative travel, refund and care rights in qualifying circumstances.
Missed connection
A connecting journey booked as one itinerary may qualify when a disruption causes you to reach your final destination significantly late.
Important conditions
What can affect your eligibility?
LATAM Airlines does not have one worldwide compensation rule. Each relevant flight must meet the conditions of its applicable framework. LATAM schedules and operating entities can vary by flight and date; verify the exact segment.
Protected European departures can qualify under EC261
EC261 has its own disruption, delay, operating-carrier and other eligibility conditions; arrival from a third country on a non-EU carrier is not enough.
Mexico has airline-attributable delay and cancellation remedies
For airline-attributable delays of more than one but less than four hours the registered airline policy applies; more than two but less than four hours carries a statutory 7.5% ticket-price minimum. An attributable delay exceeding four hours, a qualifying cancellation or involuntary overbooking may trigger statutory refund or alternative-travel choices; qualifying refund or later-travel options can carry at least 25% additional compensation.
Identify the real operating carrier
LATAM Airlines (LA) is not interchangeable with distinct LATAM Brasil, LATAM Peru, LATAM Colombia, LATAM Ecuador or other group operators. LATAM's brand also sells Delta, Iberia and other partner flights. Confirm the legal operating airline on each segment; group routes do not automatically establish LA-operated UK, Canadian, Saudi or Thailand services.
Journey direction and connections matter
The airport where the affected sector departed, whether the whole connection was on one booking and the actual final arrival time may change the assessment.
Disruption cause and alternative travel matter
Compensation is not automatic. The length and cause of a delay, cancellation notice, offered alternatives and documentation affect eligibility.
