Quick answer

Could your flight qualify?

You may be entitled to compensation for an eligible Porter delay, cancellation, involuntary denied boarding or disrupted connection. Porter-operated flights to, from or within Canada can fall under the APPR. If your booking includes a flight operated by a partner airline, the operating carrier and route should also be checked.

Important conditions

What can affect your eligibility?

A Porter flight number alone does not establish an entitlement. Travaro checks the disruption circumstances, final arrival delay, complete itinerary and operating carrier before applying the relevant passenger-rights rules.

The cause of the disruption matters

For APPR delay and cancellation compensation, the disruption generally needs to be within the airline's control and not required for safety. Situations outside the airline's control are treated differently.

Final arrival delay determines the compensation tier

For qualifying APPR delay and cancellation claims, the amount depends on how late you arrive at the final destination shown on your original itinerary.

Porter is treated as a large airline

Porter is currently classified as a large Canadian airline under the APPR, so the large-carrier compensation and rebooking rules apply where their other conditions are satisfied.

International Porter flights can still fall under APPR

APPR can apply to qualifying flights departing from or arriving in Canada, so a Porter journey does not need to be entirely domestic to fall within Canada's passenger-rights regime.

The operating carrier matters on partner journeys

Porter offers codeshare and interline travel with partner airlines. If another airline actually operated the disrupted flight, that operating carrier and route can affect which passenger-rights rules apply.

Connections should be assessed as a complete journey

If your flights form a protected connecting itinerary, an earlier disruption can matter when it causes you to reach your final destination significantly late.

Mexico's Civil Aviation Law can apply on qualifying Mexico services

Porter Airlines services involving Mexico can also need to be assessed under Mexico's Civil Aviation Law, including the airline's registered compensation policy for attributable delays and the statutory remedies that apply after serious delays, cancellations or overbooking.
